This piece is about noticing. It’s about asking questions.

It’s about the appreciation of the embedded underneath. I hope you look for it.

For this piece I ripped up a lot of paper, glued it back together, painted over it, ripped it back up, and futzed with it some more.

I deconstructed the physical words Madcap lives by and created an abstract composition where you have to search to put together these core values. You might never know exactly what these words are, but now you know they are there.

This piece is about noticing. It’s about asking questions. It’s about the appreciation of the embedded underneath. I hope you look for it.

Madcap is a coffee roaster and cafe franchise limited to Michigan currently, but with a global reach.

I have always admired how committed to excellence Madcap is. As a patron, it’s evident to see. But it wasn’t until I worked at the Monroe location as a barista that I saw how embedded their core values are. Passion and true hospitality fuel the teams (even when we were dog-tired and worn out from the business of the Art Prize months). Each member of the Madcap team displays a commitment to excellent service and radical hospitality.

This mural is inspired by the service workers I called family for many shifts. It’s inspired by the grit and tenacity that I experienced and was a part of the hospitality industry.
